LOVE YOUR DOG? LICENSE YOUR DOG! All dogs are required to be licensed in the Town of Alexandria. Licensing helps the recovery of lost or stray animals and helps protect the public from rabies, since licensed dogs must have proof of vaccination.
A license is required even if the dog is always on the owner’s property, on a leash, always indoors, or lives on a farm. Dogs are required by law to wear their metal license tags.

Jefferson County Dog Enumeration Starting Soon in the
Town of Alexandria and Village of Alexandria Bay.
The County of Jefferson will be conducting an enumeration (census) starting April 2012.
The enumeration will be for both Town and Village, door to door visits will be conducted to
assure accuracy. In the event a dog(s) are found unlicensed, the owner will be required
to license that dog within ten days of receipt of notice by the enumerator. All dogs not
licensed will be subject to a $5.00 enumeration fee in addition to the regular license fees.
Licensing:
Dog licenses are issued under the authority of the Town of Alexandria Local Law No.2 for
the year 2010. The Town requires that all dogs over the age of 4 months must be
licensed. License must be renewed annually and owners will receive a renewal notice in
the mail approximately a month prior to the license renewal date.
To obtain a license, the owner must provide the Town Clerk with veterinary
documentation of a current rabies vaccination and spayed or neutered documentation.
The cost to license for a spayed/neutered dog is $10.00, and the cost to license an
unspayed or unnetured dog is $20.00.
Owners who fail to license their dog or renew the existing license for a dog will be in
violation of this law.
An ID tag should be kept on the dog’s collar at ALL times so that the owner can be traced
and notified if missing dog is found.

Legal Notice
The Town of Alexandria Town Board at its April 17,2012 Board Meeting adopted an Amendment to the Rt.
12 Sewer District Sewer Use Ordinance. Section 4.2 is hereby amended by adding the following at the end
thereof: In addition to the permit and inspection fee, a connection fee is hereby established and shall be
imposed on all new connections to the Sewer District in the amount of $1,000.00 per EDU to be connected,
payable upon submission of the permit application/
